Shame

I honestly don't really know what to say about this film. It was beautifully done. It was depressing. It was "risqué". Above all, Michael Fassbender did an amazing job. Now, obviously, I may be a little bias seeing as how "the Fassy" has made the Daily Hot Menz Alerter on several occasions and I even have a day of the week devoted solely for him, but he really did do a great job with this film and his character, Brandon Sullivan. What could have been perceived as "taboo" or "inappropriate", Michael Fassbender made just an afterthought. He made you care about his character. He made you concerned for him.

Now, obviously, most people will not like the film base solely on the subject matter, but it's their loss. The sex and sexuality only plays a background role in the exploration of the character of Brandon; it only explains one aspect of his life and who he is. While we only get brief mentions of his past,

"We're not bad people. We just come from a bad place." - Sissy Sullivan

these brief mentions help us to understand his life and what events or actions have led him to where he is in his life throughout the film.

This is one of those films that will stick with you for awhile after it's over. I always consider that a sign that the film was amazing. Whenever I'm thinking about a film days or weeks after I watched it, I know that it's a keeper. So, if you haven't seen it yet, or you think it will just be too much, you just need to do it. Don't even think about it. Just watch the movie.
